Its in his kiss...

Today's post is a really really girly one...Probably cos today i miss the boy something fierce, or perhaps just cos on the inside I am just a big fat soppy romantic!
I truly believe that ole Cher was on to something when she sang "...its in his kiss". I can still remember the first kiss - me and the boy (of course I can!). We were at Beanbag, sitting at a table full of friends - of course they may as well not have been there (sorry guys) cos neither of us noticed :) After a while i think they got the hint and left (at last!) And then it happened.. and it was the most amazing experience of my life. A kiss is just so personal I think, its so in your face (literally ;)), theres so much honesty there... that moment when your eyes meet, and time seems to stop, your breaths mingle and you share a little bit of your soul. Yes i know thats so corny - but it really is how i feel. And its also the reason why from that first kiss I have been absolutely smitten, a goner and hopelessly in luuuurve.
So today's post is dedicated to all those die hard romantics, and to my very own Spiderman - can't wait to lay one on you tomorrow!

The Jet Set...

Just back from a fantastic weekend in Jozi - rang in Shavania's birthday is grand style... I think perhaps a celebrated a little too hard (my head still hurts!). Ate too much, drank far too much...and certainly didn't sleep enough!
You know you're great friends when months can go by and yet when you're together its like it was just yesterday and you can pick up right where you left off!
Of course, these days, what with ever evolving technology and the ever decreasing cost of air travel - its a lot easier to stay in touch - Amen!
I think at any point in the day Shavania and possibly Jamie and Tom as well, know exactly how and/or what I'm doing -although to be honest it usually is some variation on "tired" or "hungry" "sleepy" or "overworked"... Quite the moaning minnie am i ;)
Without facebook, MSN, e-mail - hey even sms I'd be at a total loss - 'cos it seems that very often in my life the theme song seems to be "Leavin on a jet plane..." So - if you have grand designs on a career outside of Durban, or perhaps even over the sea - give me a shout ;) But never fear - I know how to keep in touch!

Hit em up!

Memory is such a fascinating thing - our ability to capture the essence of a moment - all the emotion and intensity, right down to the physical reaction - and to recall all of it with the smallest of triggers. You gotta love it. For instance the smell of Estee Lauder Pleasures will always remind me of the man who shattered my heart, and the scent of the incense they burnt at my grandmothers funeral to this day makes me nauseus.
But there are good memories too :)
Listening to iTunes today- i stumbled on "Pule's Dope Session" - a marvellous collection of some of the BEST gangsta tunes ever!
And there it was - in all its pride and glory -Tupac's Hit em up! I was immediately transported back to Number 4 Somerset Lodge, Grahamstown. I was 19 again, drinking Autum Harvest Crackling (bought at the bargain price of R8.99!), screaming at the top of my lungs "Grab your glocks when you see 2pac, Call the cops when you see 2pac, Uhh Who shot me, But your punks didn't finish, Now you 'bout to feel the wrath of a menace, nigga, We hit 'em up!" Mrs Irwin (the seriously old and bitter lady from the downstairs flat) is banging on her roof (my floor) with her broomstick, but my friends and I are just too gangsta to care. Aaaah those were the days.
So in memory of the best lyricist/poet/rapper - the man - Tupac... tonight kids...Lets Hit em up!

One day when I'm big...

Do you remember those days way back when, in high school, when the lines were clearly drawn and people stuck to their groups. You had the Jocks - the really hot guys who may or may not have been the sharpest pencils in the box. There were a few girls who formed part of this group as well - but i think we all questioned their sexuality, and the same went for the guys who were part of the drama club.
Then there were the nerds, social outcasts and library bound -they're probably millionaires today. Your boss is proabably a former high school nerd.
Its funny how some things change and some never do. Girls for one thing - no matter how old we get, the girl in you never dies. The insecure, bitchy, caustic nature of women never dies. So this may strike you as rather odd - me writing against my sex. But it has to be said- and then maybe we can all deal with it and move on.
When it comes to friendship i think men are paces ahead of women. I'm not sure if it comes from cavemen having to rely on each other - hunting in packs and all that. Women on the other hand, theres back biting and gossip and its just SO ugly and thats one thing a man will never understand - cos their just not made like that. So no mater how growed up we are, theres nothing like a bitchy cow to bring out the lil fighter in you - no matter how past it you think you may be.
So my advice to women would be - firstly let him enjoy his boys night, you won't get it cos we dont have that. And secondly - if you're lucky enough to find that one special woman who gets you, who feels pain when you're hurting, who will no doubt be there when the shit hits the fan - appreciate her. I know i do.

Fashionably Late and Fabulous Dahling

My life has been dedicated to MTN Durban Fashion Week for the past few days, with all our hard work culminating in a fabulous media launch at the new Suncoast Hotel and Towers last night. Designers, media, politicians, fashionistas and the whose who in Durban rubbed shoulders at this gala event (we really did put on a great show). I'm always blown away by superficial nature of the fashion industry - it really is the way it looks on TV - hug hug, kiss kiss, bitch bitch. Buuuut and heres the scary thing - I'm starting to love it! I love the glitz and the glamour (of course I have all the hard work which keeps me grounded). The people are absolutely fascinating - and no other event will provide a better opportunity for people watching than one in this industry.

Last night I made friends with this fabulous boy, turns out he's not just a pretty face - Cohan is also a pastry chef and has very kindly offered to bake my wedding cake! He's such a sweetheart and his ex-boyfriend is a real tosser!

So - i worked hard, partied hard and dragged my hungover self into work at about 10am...a little taste of things to come this June. I can't wait!

One for the road...

Just getting ready to pack up my things and make the journey home...and every day around this time I start contemplating the drive home. Its not a long drive, traffic permitting of course. But these days, traffic is always a nightmare, and most of it I put down to careless and inconsiderate driving. One of my PET hates is inconsideration, and no where is it more obvious than on the roads.

If you're standing in a queue at the bank waiting to get to the teller, do you suddenly start cutting in front of the person in front of you... or better still create your own new queue? No you don't, thats not socially acceptable behaviour - yet somehow on the road (in the anonymity of their cars??), people feel its ok to behave in this fashion.
"Oh i'm so exhausted... its been such a long day... I gotta go make dinner..." Whatever!!! So do I!! So why should i sit in the traffic while you choose to ride the emergency line and cut in front of me?

And where are the traffic cops when this is happening? Probably sitting outside a hospital with limited parking waiting to fine people visting their dying family members. Yeh that sounds about right.

So luckily today is Friday, which means Friday drinks.. I will of course limit my intake, i am driving, but i gotta have that one for the road.

Deep breaths... it is the weekend! :)
